A hiding place for corsairs, Saint-Malo was the starting point for these unscrupulous adventurers, thirsting for freedom and riches. These pirates of the seas had long the protection of the king in that port of the French west coast. The walled city is one of the few preserved in the country. It is within it that most of the restaurants are home to delicious typical foods, craft shops and lively bars at night. Its inhabitants are known for their strong connection with the sea and with beer. Besides cider, the drink is also produced in this region of Brittany.

The city was burned down during World War II. Today, the walls built between the 12th and 13th centuries, besides being responsible for the magic of the place, offer ideal viewpoints for a panorama of the English Channel and its rocky coastline. The force of the tides is another great attraction. They can bring up to 14 meters of difference between their lowest and highest point, not counting the strong waves. Also within the walls, is the Ducal Castle of Saint-Malo, from the 15th century, which houses a history museum that reconstructs in detail the region's past.
